G.I. Bill and Diving Certifications

Aquatic Specialties is proud to announce that we have a Veteran Partnership Program with SSI! This initiative is more than just a certification opportunity - it is a way to serve again, this time in the civilian world, by leading, teaching, and inspiring others beneath the waves. Please read the tabs below for further information.

Aquatic Specialties is commited to supporting our Veterans. Thank you for your courage and service!

In order to ascertain if you are eligible, the veteran must do some preparation. Here are starting checks on what to do:

Ensure you have G.I. Bill entitlement:

You may need to Activate the G.I. Bill:

The veteran must take the initiative in this process, BUT the Aquatic Specialties staff are willing to help direct you to the right places and help guide you through the eligibility/activation process. This is a "reimbursement" program. The Vet will initially pay for the class; upon completion, the veteran will be responsible for submission of certification, receipt of payment, and any other required documentation to be compensated.

What Certifications can I get with the G.I. Bill?

The G.I. Bill can be used for many certifications for diving. For example:

This program will enable you to pursue fun in the water or chase your passion to become a dive professional! Please contact Aquatic Specialties if you have any questions about the courses offered.

There are multiple ways to submit your claim to the VA. The way that Aquatic Specialties recommends is as follows:

Needed Documents:
  • Course Certification of Completion
  • Receipt of the Cost of the Class
  • VA Form VBA-22-0803 (Provided to you by Aquatic Specialties)

Submitting Claim:

  • Submit your inquiry with the attached documents
  • If you have any questions, Aquatic Specialties can aid in the submission process

When submission is completed, the lead time is approximately 14-21 days for full compensation.

This page is currently under construction. The G.I. Bill only covers classes and certifications, but we are working to expand into other avenues for equipment compensation through scholarship programs.

How is this program part of the G.I. Bill?

This program uses the "On-the-job training and apprenticeships" portion of the Post 9-11 G.I. Bill.

What does this program cover monetarily?

This program ONLY covers the material and certification. It does NOT cover the cost of the equipment. We are diligently looking for programs that will assist in the cost of the gear for the Veteran!

What dive agency is used for this program?

All courses are powered by Scuba Schools International (SSI).

Where can I find information about classes?

Open Water class information can be found here. Already Open Water certified? All of our specialty classes and information about them can be found here.

Will diving help with my PTSD?

Diving is a unique and immersive experience that can have therapeutic benefits. Diving has been shown to help Active Duty or Veterans with managing stress.

Who should I speak with if I have more questions?

Nicholas St. John, one of our dive professionals and shop staples, is a veteran. He is a great resource for any additional questions you may have about the G.I. Bill Partnership as he is currently using this program to help further his own dive education. You are not alone out there, come dive with us!
